The Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) unanimously decided to hold the repo rate steady at 6.50% following its June 2024 meeting, marking the eighth consecutive meeting without a rate change. This decision reflects the MPC's commitment to achieving its medium-term inflation target of 4% while supporting economic growth.

All six MPC members voted to maintain the policy repo rate. Furthermore, five of the six members voted to continue with the stance of 'withdrawal of accommodation' to ensure that inflation progressively aligns with the target, while also supporting economic expansion. The MPC emphasized that while headline inflation has eased, food price uncertainties persist, which necessitates careful monitoring.

The central bank noted continued strength in domestic economic activity, with urban demand remaining robust and investment activity showing signs of resilience. However, global economic conditions and geopolitical tensions introduce an element of uncertainty. The RBI reaffirmed its data-dependent approach, indicating that future policy actions will be guided by incoming economic indicators and inflation trajectory.
