Nvidia Boosts AI PC Market Share, Unveils Slimmer RTX Spark Chips
Nvidia is expanding its presence in the personal computing market with new AI-optimized laptops, positioning these slimmer devices for generative AI workloads. The initiative involves partnerships with six major manufacturers.
Nvidia's Push into AI-Designed PCs
Nvidia has revealed the first models in a new line of personal laptop computers engineered to run artificial intelligence (AI) agents. These devices feature a newly developed version of the company's proprietary AI chips.
The new PCs measure just 14 millimeters thick and weigh less than 3 pounds, making them significantly lighter and slimmer. To facilitate their production, Nvidia is collaborating with six major manufacturers: Dell Technologies, Lenovo Group, Microsoft, HP, Asus, and MSI.
Kari Briski, Nvidia's Vice President, characterized the adoption of AI agents as a significant shift in computing demand, stating, “Agents are the new workload.”
Targeting Creators and Developers
These new PCs are powered by Nvidia's RTX Spark chip, which the company describes as “the most efficient PC chip ever built.” PCs equipped with this chip will target creators, AI developers, and gamers, with pricing set at the premium end of the market, according to Mark Aevermann, Nvidia's senior director of product development.
The announcement, made during the Computex conference in Taipei, highlights the growing capital expenditure by AI agents across the technology sector. This trend has expanded widely within months.
Nvidia's introduction of the new PCs reflects a broader strategic shift. Historically, AI labs concentrated on training large language models. However, as these models mature, the focus is increasingly on inference—running models efficiently—which enables the deployment of AI agents on edge devices like personal computers. Initially, Nvidia expects to see 30 laptop models and approximately 10 desktop models using the new chips.
