Nvidia to Invest $150B Annually in Taiwan, Citing AI Epicenter
Nvidia announced plans to invest $150 billion annually in Taiwan, designating the island as the "epicenter" of the AI revolution and a technology manufacturing hub. This investment signifies a substantial increase compared to previous budgets.
Nvidia's chief executive disclosed on Wednesday the company's intent to invest $150 billion per year in Taiwan. The CEO identified Taiwan as the "epicenter" of the artificial intelligence revolution, projecting its sustained role as a global technology manufacturing center. This annual investment represents a substantial increase from the $10-$15 billion spent by Nvidia in Taiwan just four to five years prior.
The plan includes developing new Taiwan headquarters, a project expected to break ground this year and become operational by 2030. The company's increased spending will also bring Nvidia closer to TSMC, the world's largest contract chipmaker and a critical producer of advanced semiconductors powering AI advancements. Nvidia is expanding its alliances with manufacturing partners such as Foxconn, Wistron, and Quanta Computer, all of which are essential for building out AI servers and related infrastructure.
The CEO emphasized Taiwan's economic growth, stating that it is "booming." Nvidia also plans to hire 4,000 new employees. The executive reiterated Taiwan's pivotal role in AI, noting that it is where chips, packaging, systems, and AI supercomputers are developed. He described the network of partners in Taiwan as "incredible."
