Trillion-Dollar Companies Proliferate Amid AI-Driven Surge

The number of companies valued at over $1 trillion globally has reached 15. Recent additions include South Korea's SK Hynix and US-based Micron Technology. Samsung Electronics also crossed the $1 trillion mark this month. South Korea's Kospi benchmark has seen a significant boost, with Samsung shares surging 5x and rival Hynix shares increasing 11x over the past year, driving the index to a record high.

The Kospi index has nearly doubled this year, rising 76% in calendar year 2025 and positioning South Korea as the world's best-performing major market. Globally, South Korea currently holds the seventh-largest equity market, closely trailing India.

In the past year, five companies joined the $1 trillion club. Four of these are linked to the artificial intelligence ecosystem, underscoring AI's impact on global market leadership. Of the 15 companies, 11 are from the US. Beyond the two South Korean chipmakers, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is also a member.

As of May 27 (May 26 for US companies), the 'Trillionaire club' (firms with over $1 trillion market capitalization) includes:

TSMC and Saudi Aramco are the only non-US members within this elite group. In comparison, India's most valuable company, Reliance Industries, has a market capitalization of approximately $191 billion, ranking 102nd globally. The $1 trillion club is poised for further expansion, with companies such as SpaceX, OpenAI, and Anthropic widely expected to pursue public listings in the coming months.
